According to Iranian state media, Ali Larijani<\/a>, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, was killed during attacks carried out by the United States and Israel. Larijani had long been one of the most influential figures in Iran\u2019s recent political history, holding key roles across multiple institutions.<\/p>\n

A career spanning four decades<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ali Larijani was born on June 3, 1957, in Najaf, Iraq. He completed his undergraduate studies in computer science at Sharif University of Technology and later earned his master\u2019s and doctoral degrees in philosophy from the University of Tehran.<\/p>\n

He began his career in 1981 at Iran\u2019s Central News Unit and went on to serve in various positions across state institutions. In 1982, he joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and later held several deputy ministerial roles in different ministries.<\/p>\n

Key roles in media and security<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the 1990s, Larijani moved into cultural and media roles, serving for nearly a decade as head of Iran\u2019s state broadcaster IRIB. He later transitioned into the security sphere, becoming Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, where he oversaw Iran\u2019s nuclear file and took part in related negotiations.<\/p>\n

Parliament leadership and return to top office<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Elected as a member of parliament from Qom, Larijani served three consecutive terms as speaker of parliament from 2008 to 2020. In 2025, he was reappointed as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.<\/p>\n
