Speaking on French channel France 2, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Iran\u2019s people should not be confused with the government in Tehran and warned that language of this scale could trigger consequences far beyond the region. His remarks came after Donald Trump\u2019s statement about the possible destruction of Iranian civilization sparked fresh international concern.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u201cA civilization cannot be erased\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Asked whether Trump\u2019s threat toward Iran should be taken seriously, Barrot responded, \u201cEverything that is excessive is insignificant. A civilization cannot be erased.\u201d With those words, the French minister made clear that Paris rejects the idea of such a threat being turned into reality.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u201cI hope he will not act on these threats\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Barrot stressed that a large nation like Iran should not be reduced to its current leadership alone. He said, \u201cThis is not President Trump\u2019s first ultimatum since the start of the war. Of course, I hope he will not act on these threats.\u201d His comments underlined France\u2019s concern over any further escalation.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Strong warning over attacks on civilian infrastructure<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Barrot also warned that carrying out such a threat would sharply raise tensions in both the region and the rest of the world. He said France is firmly opposed to attacks on civilian infrastructure, no matter where they take place and regardless of who is responsible. He added that such attacks are against the laws of war and international law.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Trump\u2019s remarks triggered new debate<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"Trump issues fresh threat to Iran\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/trump-threat-to-iran-the-entire-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> had said in a social media post, \u201cTonight, an entire civilization will be wiped out and will never come back again.
