Around five hostages have escaped from a Sydney cafe besieged by a gunman during Monday morning rush hour, according to local media.
Catherine Burn, New South Wales deputy police commissioner, confirmed three people had exited the building in the Martin Place plaza, the Australian reported.
Another two hostages, both believed to be women, were later seen fleeing the cafe in the financial and shopping district, according to Channel 7.
