The incident came to light in September 2024 during a routine audit of Brigitte Macron’s tax records. According to a BFMTV documentary, the issue was not a technical glitch but a targeted act of data manipulation.
Tristan Bomme, the First Lady’s chief of staff, explained: “When Mrs. Macron logged into her account, she saw the name Jean-Michel Macron instead of her own. It was clearly an intentional alteration.”
Cyberattack suspected: Two people identified
Following the discovery, Brigitte Macron filed an official complaint. Authorities opened a cybercrime investigation, and two suspects have been identified. Initial findings indicate that the data in the national system was deliberately changed.
Old rumors resurface
The bizarre incident reignited long-running conspiracy theories falsely claiming Brigitte Macron was “born male.” The Macrons have previously taken legal action against those spreading the rumor, including journalist Natacha Rey and influencer Amandine Roy, who were fined in 2024.
The couple also sued American commentator Candace Owens over similar claims. French media report that the First Lady is now considering a genetic test to definitively end the speculation.
A life story coming to screen
Brigitte Macron’s life will soon be adapted into a six-episode TV series titled “Brigitte, A Free Woman” by the French production company Gaumont. The series will chronicle her journey from teacher to one of France’s most talked-about public figures.
