In a brief press release, the military said on Friday, most of the reconnaissance mission in the archipelago was completed on Friday morning at 8.00 clock. The ships had returned in the ports. It would, however, remain some units ashore.
The search for the mysterious underwater object began last Friday. After numerous clues from the population, the Swedes were convinced that a foreign power residing illegally in their waters. Swedish media had speculated, a Russian submarine could be in distress. However, not confirmed.
In the past, Soviet and Russian submarines had been suspected before the Swedish coast and over again. In October 1981, a Soviet submarine sank in a military zone off the coast of Karlskrona in the south of the country.
