Lake Van in eastern Turkey has earned the Blue Flag status, the mayor announced Wednesday.
In a statement, Fevzi Ozgokce said: “Van Lake will be a tourist destination for millions especially neighbouring country Iran.”
The lake was given the status for its safety and access-related standards.
Blue Flag is an eco-label awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
