Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian Ministry of Defense to implement the ceasefire.
The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, called for a ceasefire in Ukraine during the Orthodox Christmas period on January 6-7. Patriarch Kirill stated that the ceasefire should be implemented from the noon hours of January 6 to the night of January 7, so that Orthodox people can attend the ceremonies in the churches.
In a statement made by the Kremlin, it was stated that Russia declared a ceasefire in Ukraine on January 6-7. Russian President Putin has also instructed the Russian Ministry of Defense to implement a 36-hour ceasefire in Ukraine from 12:00 tomorrow.
Ukraine: Propaganda element
Ukrainian Presidential Office Advisor Mikhail Podolyak argued that the call for a ceasefire was propaganda. Podolyak, on his Twitter account, evaluated the call for a ceasefire in Ukraine during the Orthodox Christmas period. “Therefore, the Russian Orthodox Church’s statement about the Christmas truce is a cynical trap and an element of propaganda,” Podolyak said.
