The demonstration comes after the legislation for same sex marriage was approved by the House of Deputies and sent it to the Senate on Wednesday for consideration.

The President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez had given her word, not to veto the legislation should the Senate approves the measures and it reaches her.

The legislation will give new rights to gay couples such as adoption and marriage.

Demonstrators on Tuesday shouted slogans such as “the children have a right to a mother and a father” while the Roman Catholic Church and many other religious groups and organizations were firmly against the legislation.

Meanwhile, supporters of the legislation also rallied in the streets of Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina and many other cities in the country.
