Two of every three children suffer the effects of poverty in Honduras, where distrubution of wealth is among the most unequal in Latin America.

In Honduras, two-thirds of children are malnourished and lack access to safe and clean water, sanitation, school, media and information, according to a study by the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC) and UNICEF.

These UN agencies say that poverty also affects more than 81 million children in Latin America and the Caribbean.

ECLAC and UNICEF fight against Latin America Poverty

Under such dire circumstances, they called the region’s governments to promote social, employment and macroeconomic policies to end the economic and social struggle in which these children have to live even survive.

In public policy, ECLAC and UNICEF stated that for progressing in overcoming child poverty is essential to invest in children and reduce the consistent socio-economic, territorial, ethnic and gender inequality present in all countries of the region.
