Edinson Cavani wants £150,000 a week to join Chelsea.
Chelsea will hold further talks later this week with the Napoli striker’s agent over a £35m move. But the 26-year-old Uruguayan star’s massive wage demands are holding up the deal for one of Europe’s most wanted strikers.
Cavani’s demands would put him level with the highest earners at Chelsea, John Terry and Frank Lampard. Blues owner Roman Abramovich is attempting to tie up more than £65m worth of deals in the next fortnight while Roberto Di Matteo’s men are on their US tour. Cavani has shot to the top of Chelsea’s wanted list after plans to sign Brazilian Hulk stalled over the price demanded by Porto.
Cavani, who can leave Napoli for £35million, is one of the options being considered by Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo as he looks to fill the gaping hole left by Didier Drogba.
The Uruguayan has hit 66 goals in 94 games for Napoli since 2010. He scored one of his side’s goals in their Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Chelsea last season, and also netted three times in two games against Manchester City.

A former Spain Under-21 regular, Azpilicueta has impressed at Marseille since moving from Osasuna in 2010, despite a number of injury complaints, including a cruciate knee ligament problem in his debut season that ruled him out for six months.
Azpilicueta is now looking for a new challenge though, with his aim of winning a place in the senior Spain squad showing no signs of fruition at inconsistent Marseille, who finished 10th in Ligue 1 last season.
Chelsea are ready to test the water with a bid for the 22-year-old, but are unwilling to splash out much more given Marseille’s need for cash to fund a squad overhaul.
