The Pacaya volcano in Guatemala first erupted on Wednesday but came back to life on Friday with huge effect on the people living approximately 5 kilometers around it.

Ash which was released from Pacaya volcano literally blanketed nearby villages and cities with the President of the Guatemala declaring a 15-day stat emergency around the huge volcano located 30 miles South of Guatemala City, the capital.

The eruption of the volcano has so far been linked to three deaths including a television reporter covering the story.

It is also reported that three children have been reported missing in the area after the eruption.

Experts are saying, unlike the volcano in Iceland, the ash released by the Pacaya volcano is much thicker then the ash released from the Iceland volcano causing much more of the ash to fall to the ground.

The international airport in the city of Guayaquil was also closed by officials with some flights from Peru being cancelled due to the ash from the volcano.

The Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador exploded on Friday forcing several villages to be evacuated with the help of the military from nearby villages after an estimated 100 homes were destroyed by the rocks which were thrown thousands of feet into the air.

It has been reported that hundreds of people were injured from the initial explosions and aftermath in both countries.

Clearing work has already started with the public and cleaning workers all trying to help in clearing the volcanic ash from the streets.

  1. We visited Guatemala in February of this year and fell in love with the country and its beautiful people. We went to see Pacaya where the hot lava was visible . It is very sad to read about the eruption and the tropical storm causing injury, death and destruction. Out prayers are with these people.
