10 of the cheapest holiday countries in the world

From Bolivia to Bulgaria: Here you will find the cheapest holiday countries in the world!

Fantastic buildings, spectacular natural wonders, exciting cultures. Sounds like expensive fun? Don’t worry, because even the cheapest holiday countries in the world offer you valuable experiences and a variety of impressions.

  1. Cambodia

Cambodia is the first in our list of the cheapest holiday destinations. A night in a hotel costs only around ten euros*, a fantastic meal even less. Cambodia is so cheap it makes you feel guilty about paying so little. In the past, only a few travelers set foot in the country, but Cambodia is now on the itinerary of backpackers in particular and should also be on yours. The country’s biggest attraction is definitely Angkor Wat, one of the most famous and fascinating temple complexes in the world. Spiritual, extraordinary and cheap – definitely worth a trip.

  1. Vietnam

Despite its increasing popularity, Vietnam is still one of the cheapest holiday destinations in the world. Many of the cities and especially the rural areas are very beautiful to look at: the vibrant capital Hanoi is just as exciting, if perhaps a little less relaxing, as the colorful rice paddies of the country. With about 15-20 euros* a day you can make ends meet and everything is already included. If you want to treat yourself to a little more luxury, there are no limits.

  1. India

It’s easy to spend a lot of money in India if you want to, especially if you’re looking for a shopping spree or staying at a luxury international hotel. In Delhi, you quickly pay as much as in Dubai. Away from the tourist and luxury areas, however, the cost of living is low, even if you’re happy to take a taxi. For about 15-20 euros you can spend a really nice day in India, which also makes it one of the cheapest holiday countries.

  1. Bolivia

Let’s continue with one of the cheapest holiday countries in South America. In Bolivia you can take unique pictures like the one above, in the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt pan in the world. But you can also find very photogenic areas in the heart of the city of La Paz, such as the old town Calle Jaén. Here you can admire the best preserved colonial street in Bolivia. As if that weren’t enough, it’s hard to find cheaper food prices in South America than in Bolivia. For example, a bottle of Paceña beer costs less than two euros* in a restaurant, as does a bowl of chairo (potato soup). Soup and beer – that’s all you need.

  1. Hungary

Budapest, the historic Hungarian capital on the Danube, should be on the itinerary of any European tour. While it’s not quite as cheap as it was when no budget airlines landed there, the prices are definitely affordable. The best way to spoil yourself with a delicious piece of cake, have a schnapps for a nightcap and then work up a good sweat in the relaxing thermal baths, all for a reasonable price – you can definitely find a bargain or two in Budapest.

  1. Honduras

There’s Belize, there’s Costa Rica, and there’s Guatemala. But real bargain hunters come to Honduras, the cheapest holiday destination in Central America. The country is not very popular with tourists because it is not considered to be entirely harmless. But if you inform yourself in advance about the current political situation and stay away from certain areas, you have a cheap Caribbean paradise open to you. The country offers white sandy beaches with palm trees, deep blue sea and super cheap delicious food.

  1. Bulgaria

Black Sea resorts have been increasingly crowded with tourists from all over the world in recent years. Probably because the summer and the sunshine in Bulgaria are just as nice as in Spain or Italy – just cheaper. If you prefer a city break to a beach holiday, the capital Sofia offers hearty meals, friendly company and plenty of beautiful sights, as do the southern cities of Burgas and Varna. Bulgaria really offers something for every type of holiday and is simply beautiful to look at!

  1. Sri Lanka

“The finest sandy beach, cloud-covered mountains, waterfalls, tea plantations and palm trees that sway in the wind – Sri Lanka is like paradise!” That’s how it is written in many travel guides. But you can also simply look forward to a hearty fish curry, trekking in the jungle or hotels on the beach. And all this for low prices: less than 25€ a day in Sri Lanka is enough and you get a real dream destination with lush landscapes and beautiful beaches.

  1. Argentina

Buenos Aires has often been cited as one of the most exciting cities in the world for its vibrant nightlife. The metropolis is located in one of the cheapest holiday destinations in Latin America. If you stay away from the wild party nights, you can experience the colorful and extravagant lifestyle of Argentina’s capital for less than 40€ a day. But who wants to be in the city when you can discover such natural wonders as the Iguazu Falls in Argentina.

  1. Greece
On the famous Greek islands you can spend the night well and cheaply and also get delicious food at cheap prices. When it comes to cheap holiday destinations, Greece is probably the most underrated country. So make sure to put Greece on your list for your next holiday: sites steeped in history, deep blue sea and delicious wine, what more could you ask for?
