At least 18 students were killed  when their school van collided with a truck in Nawabshah area of Pakistan’s Sindh province on Wednesday.

Islamabad, Jan 18/Nationalturk – At least 18 students were killed and 13 others including some teachers injured, some of them critically, when their school van collided with a truck on Qazi Ahmed Road in Nawabshah area of Pakistan’s Sindh province on Wednesday.

“The school van collided with the loaded dump-truck in the town of Nawabshah, about 270 kilometres north of Karachi in Sindh province.  The students, aged between 10 to 16, were students of the Bright Future School from the nearby town of Daulatpur and had come to Nawabshah for a school trip,” a senior police official said.

School van suffered extensive damage

He said the school van suffered extensive damage in the accident and 18 students were killed. 13 others including some teachers and teachers were injured in the tragic accident.

The injured were shifted to People’s Medical College Nawabshah for specialized treatment. The doctors in the hospital have termed condition of six injured students as critical and shifted them to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Unconfirmed reports said three teachers, who were accompanying the students, were also killed.

Authorities order inquiry

Authorities have ordered an inquiry into the accident to fix the responsibility.

Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain and several other politicians have condemned the demise of the students.

In his message to the parents of the deceased student, Hussain said he was shocked over the sad demise of the students and prayed to Almighty to give them courage to bear their loss with equanimity.

He has also asked the authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured students.
