At least 2107 foreign tourists were provided Visa on Arrival (VoA) in India in March 2013.

New Delhi, April 12/Nationalturk – In a good news for Indian tourism sector, at least 2107 foreign tourists were provided Visa on Arrival (VoA) in India in March 2013.

“The VoA scheme for foreign tourists of 11 countries registered a growth of 63% in March 2013. In the month, 2,107 VoAs were issued as compared to 1287 VoAs  issued in March 2012,” an Indian official spokesman said.

He said during the period January to March 2013, at least 5744 VoAs were issued. “In comparison,  3,905 VoAs were issued to foreign tourists by India during corresponding period of 2012, registering a positive growth of 47.1%”.

The spokesman said in  March this year,  848 VoAs were issued for Japanese travelers, 332 for citizens of New Zealand, 312 for  Indonesian travelers, 225 for Philippines travelers, 214 for citizens of Singapore, 109 for travelers of Finland, 32 for citizens of Luxembourg,20 for Vietnamese nationals,  8 for Myanmar nationals and 7 for travelers from Cambodia.

He said from January to March this year, 2251 nationals of Japan were provided visa on arrival in India followed by 985 for New Zealand, 739 for Indonesia, 631 for  Philippines,  571 for Singapore, 386 for Finland travelers, 61 for Luxembourg nationals, 53 for Vietnam, 42 for Cambodia, 22 for Myanmar and 3 for Laos.

India is providing visa on arrival with a maximum validity for 30 days to citizens of 11 countries.

As a facilitative measure to attract more and more foreign tourists to India, Indian government launched “Visa on Arrival” (VoA) scheme in January 2010 for citizens of five countries — Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. Later, the Indian government extended VoA scheme to citizens of six more countries — Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar in January 2011.

India is planning to extend visa on arrivals to citizens of 16 more countries, including Germany, France, Russia, Brazil and Malaysia.
