The ex-wife and accomplice of the notorious Belgian pedophile killer Marc Dutroux, Michelle Martin has been granted a conditional release from prison to serve the rest of her sentence in a convent.

One of the French Agencies has reported the Belgian court has ruled that 52-year-old Michelle Martin, ex-wife and accomplice of the pedophile killer Marc Dutroux, can be released to a convent.

Michelle Martin was convicted of helping her husband Marc Dutroux hold 6 young girls prisoner in the 1990s, and of complicity in the deaths of two 8-year-old girls – Julie Lejeune and Melissa Russo – who died of starvation in Dutroux’s dungeon.

Belgian Court releases Michelle Martin, wife of notorious pedophile Marc Dutroux

Michelle Martin is expected to enter the sisters of Clare convent within days to serve the rest of her sentence in prayer but will not be allowed to live within a 62 mile radius of her and Marc Dutroux’s victims.

A Belgian court has authorised Michelle Martin’s release after accepting her application for parole last year. Prosecutors and the relatives of victims will have two weeks to appeal.

Pedophile killer Marc Dutroux was jailed for life eight years ago for the kidnap and rape in the 1990s of 6 young and teenaged girls, four of whom were murdered. The announcement of her release has angered the parents of her and Marc Dutroux’s victims.

Paul Marchal, the father of An who was murdered with her friend Eefje Lambreck, after being kidnapped in 1995, described the decision as a thunderbolt. He said that the system is wrong and he had hoped they would continue to improve the system for victims, but it only improves for criminals.
