Beşiktaş chairman Demirören anounced candidacy for vacant TFF presidency

Yıldırım Demirören, the Besiktas chairman announced his candidacy on Monday, the last day for announcing candidacy to fill the vacant Turkish Football Federation (TFF) throne deserted by Mehmet Ali Aydınlar amid match fixing scandal.

Istanbul / NationalTurk – Two weeks after former TFF president Mehmet Ali Aydınlar resigned amid the ongoing match-fixing scandal that is still rocking Turkish football and because his incompetency of handling the crisis top names, including Beşiktaş Chairman Yıldırım Demirören, have announced they will run for being the boss at the Turkish Football Federation.

Yıldırım Demirören announced his presidency candidacy during a Beşiktaş executive committee gatheringon Monday, the last day for announcing candidacy to fill the vacant deserted by fading Mehmet Ali Aydınlar. Demirören formally filed an application with the TFF Presidency later in the day in order to run as a candidate for Turkish Football Federation’s top post.

Along with Demirören, former TFF boss Haluk Ulusoy (served as TFF president 1997-2004, 2006-2008) also announced that he is up to the task and will run for the TFF presidency. However Ulusoy has withdrawn his candidacy. But TFF issued the 20 men candidate list.

Amid an ongoing match-fixing scandal that has caused much chaos in the world of Turkish football and is unlikely to be concluded in the foreseeable future, another top name, former Minister of Trade Kürşat Tüzmen, a close aide to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have also declared he will run for the top position at the Turkish Football Federation two weeks after former TFF head Mehmet Ali Aydınlar resigned.

With Demiroren being the top name for TFF boss run, some names declared their candidacies quite unexpectedly.
Turkish football has been in deep crisis since last summer and the resignation of Aydınlar, who refrained from making fundamental decisions relating to the match-fixing scandal, made things even more complicated and murkier.

Falling short of solving the crisis regarding the penalties imposed on clubs and individuals implicated in the unprecedented match-fixing scandal, Mehmet ali Aydınlar and his two deputies resigned on Feb. 1.

The TFF is set to elect a new president at a meeting scheduled for next Monday.

In addition, Turkish-Indian Business Council Vice President Erdal Alkış announced that he will run for the presidency and solve Turkish football’s problems by promoting new financial sources for Anatolian clubs. He noted that the biggest source of the problems faced by Turkish football is the lack of essential financial resources.

Yıldırım Demiroren is Besiktas Chairman since 2004, and his spell as the Besiktas is rather turbulent one, his managing abilities, transfer policy always contentious. Besiktas fans share their joy in various blogs and fan-sites and welcome the news that Demiroren finally leaves his seat at Besiktas presidency.
