Blasts hit Damascus during Macron visit: Two bombs explode near Tourism Ministry

Two explosions occurred near the Tourism Ministry building in Damascus, the capital of Syria. The blasts reportedly took place close to the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying.

Two explosions rocked Damascus during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Syria. Local sources said bombs planted in a minibus and a garbage container detonated on one of the busiest streets in the capital.

Ambulances sent to the scene

According to local sources, the explosions occurred near the Tourism Ministry building.

Several ambulances were dispatched to the area, while authorities have not yet released an official statement on possible casualties or injuries.

Macron was at the presidential palace

The blasts reportedly happened near the hotel where Macron was staying in Damascus.

At the time of the explosions, the French President was said to be at the Presidential Palace for talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Damascus had recently seen another attack

On July 2, a bomb attack targeted a café near the Palace of Justice on the road leading to Hamidiyeh Market in Damascus.

That attack killed 10 people and injured 21 others.
