Boris Becker calls mother from prison

Boris Becker has been in prison for a week. Mother’s Day fell right at the beginning of his sentence. The mother of the ex-tennis star reports how it was for her and whether she heard from her son.

Not an easy Mother’s Day for Elvira Becker. The 86-year-old received a call from prison on Sunday – from her imprisoned son Boris Becker. A ray of hope for the mother of the three-time Wimbledon winner. However, she seems very sad.

“Not so good. What can I say? He’s my son …” was her answer to the question from “Bild” about her current condition. She also tells the newspaper: “He just called me. For Mother’s Day.”

About how the 54-year-old former tennis pro is doing, she only says: “How should he be? He’s in prison …” But something apparently gives Elvira Becker support: “Fortunately, the penalty is halved,” says you. You have always had a good relationship with each other, emphasizes Elvira Becker.

During the negotiations, Elvira Becker said to “Bild”: “I’m a little afraid of what’s coming.” But she had also emphasized that she “needed no moral support”.

Sentenced to two and a half years in prison

Boris Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on April 29, 2022 for bankruptcy offenses and was then taken directly by the court to the Victorian Wandsworth prison with the high security category B. The prison has a bad reputation. It swarms with mice and rats. Leftovers are carelessly thrown out of the cells, violence is the order of the day – and the trend is increasing.

The athlete must spend at least half of his sentence behind bars. He has until the end of May to appeal the verdict. But experts see little chance of success.
