Hürser Tekinoktay, who made strong accusations against then-Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman, attracted considerable attention on social media as “the Beşiktaş presidential candidate with a Che Guevara tattoo.”
Ahead of the Beşiktaş elective general assembly scheduled for 12 May 2019, Tekinoktay argued that Fikret Orman should not run for another term. Speaking on TRT Spor, he said a Beşiktaş president should not issue invoices to his own companies and must be someone capable of connecting with the public.
He also claimed that the club’s membership had fallen from 30,000 to 15,000, that members had been removed for failing to pay a single month’s dues, and that certain irregular memberships had been registered.
Regarding the coaching position, Tekinoktay said he had met and reached an understanding with John Toshack on several matters, although not specifically for the head-coach role, adding that he had another candidate in mind.
Hurser Tekinoktay, known for the Che Guevara tattoo on his left shoulder, began his coaching career at Beşiktaş’s youth academy in 1995. He worked with several youth teams and played a role in the development of Nihat Kahveci. He speaks Italian and English and studied Lazio’s training methods in Rome during the 1993–94 season.
The report also describes him as an admirer of both Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Che Guevara.
