Delivery bottlenecks for food and drinks on Lufthansa flights

Lufthansa used to give at least one drink and a small snack for free on short-haul flights. The free snacks were already abolished at the end of last year, but the entire catering offer on routes within Europe is currently severely restricted.
Depending on the place of departure, there is often nothing to eat or snack on at the moment.
A bag of potato chips or biscuits, plus a cup of tomato juice – commuters within Germany used to be able to get used to this free offer from Lufthansa. It is therefore not unlikely that there is currently dissatisfaction in economy class. Snacks and drinks are apparently in short supply at Lufthansa.
No snacks and drinks with Lufthansa?
The catering service Gate Gourmet, which also supplies Lufthansa, is currently complaining about staff shortages. TRAVELBOOK finds out about this when asking the airline. Therefore, the catering offer had to be adjusted on isolated short and medium-haul routes. Which flights are affected in detail cannot be foreseen in advance. However, you should be prepared for a very limited range of drinks and food, especially on flights from Frankfurt am Main.
Business class is not affected
The business class offer is not affected. And nobody has to go thirsty in Economy Class either – at least one bottle of water is available to every passenger. According to the company spokesman, the delivery problems mainly affect the “Onboard Delights” service, i.e. the food and drink range on board that can be bought. We are in contact with the service provider in order to improve the situation as best we can.
Fewer and fewer free meals at Lufthansa
In November 2021, Lufthansa announced that it would no longer offer additional drinks and snacks for free on long-haul flights in Economy and Premium Economy Class. According to a press release, this is a response to the diverse needs of guests.
The free main meals remain – but should you get hungry again during the course of the trip, you would have to get something from the “Onboard Delights” mentioned. The offer should be characterized by high-quality soft drinks and spirits as well as regionally produced snacks. Assuming it’s available, of course…
