German Bundesliga side Schalke confirm transfer of Real Madrid legend Raul

German Bundesliga side Schalke have confirmed the signing of Real Madrid legend Raúl González, better known as Raul.

The Real Madrid legend who played for the Spanish side for his entire career has followed on the footsteps of Guti and will be playing for a second team for the first time in his professional life.

The 33-year-old has reportedly signed a two year deal with the top flight German side and will be playing with a former Real Madrid player Christoph Tobias Metzelder.

Raul who had been compared to royalty at Madrid had very little squad time while at Madrid since the 2009-10 season after Florentino Pérez was elected for the second time as the clubs President and spent hundreds of millions of Euros to make a super team.

Transfers such as, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema, Raúl Albiol, Xabi Alonso and others took Raul out of first team action and the final blow came after Jose Mourinho had no intention of playing the veteran striker in his new Madrid side.

Raul is still a much loved player at Real Madrid and their fans gave an emotional farewell to the player after 16-years of service at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The manager of Schalke, expressed his delight of signing Raul on the official website of the German club saying “It’s great news for FC Schalke 04, I am pleased that we have succeeded in such an exceptional footballer and world-class striker switching to the Bundesliga for Schalke 04.

“He will be an inspiration. His qualities will help us.

“His commitment is a crucial step in our efforts to strengthen the squad for future tasks, and to restructure. I look forward to working with this good professional.”

Raul’s career at Madrid has been one of a dream come true for any professional winning dozens of trophies including three Champions League titles, six league titles and four Spanish Cups.

He is also known as Real Madrid’s all time top scorer bagging in 323 goals in 741 games since 1994.
