Germany to deliver 2700 missiles to Ukraine

Germany The Economics Ministry approved the delivery of 2,700 anti-aircraft missiles of the “Strela” type from former NVA inventories.

A Defense Ministry spokeswoman told BILD about the delivery of anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine: “More equipment to support Ukraine is ready for delivery. Some items still require clearance from the Federal Security Council.”

Germany had previously changed course in the Ukraine crisis and equipped the armed forces of the country attacked by Russia with heavy weapons.

According to dpa information, the Ministry of Defense has been checking for days whether and which other weapons can be handed over to Ukraine. The deliveries now approved by the Ministry of Economics are now additional weapons of a different design.

On Saturday, the federal government decided to deliver 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 “Stinger” surface-to-air missiles from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine as quickly as possible.

The weapons (“Stinger” and rocket-propelled grenades) then arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday. In addition, the NATO partners Netherlands and Estonia were approved to deliver weapons to Ukraine that come from German production or East German stocks.

“The Russian invasion of Ukraine marks a turning point. It threatens our entire post-war order,” said Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. “In this situation, it is our duty to do our best to help Ukraine defend itself against the invading army of Vladimir Putin. Germany stands close to Ukraine.”
