Thirteen young people have been confirmed dead in a party at the border city of Ciudad Juárez/Mexico, where gunmen stormed into the house and started shooting in which officials believe was a mistaken drugs hit.

Eye witnesses say the gunmen came into the street in a convoy of 4X4’s with some standing guard on surrounding streets to keep people from coming close to the house.

The celebration was for the victory of a local American Football championship, but it was still unclear why they were targeted.

It is assumed the attack was by one of the drug trafficking gangs struggling for supremacy in the city.

A neighbor said “The men were well-armed. They went into the house and shot at everyone, you could hear the gunfire all around,”

Witnesses of the slaughter told the Associated Press they thought those behind the attack were acting on false information.

Army spokesman Enrique Torres said the dead were from 15 to 20 years old, and an additional 17 party-goers were wounded, some critically. “They were about 15 men, they closed off the surrounding streets and began shooting at the house as they moved inside,” he said.
