Indian, foreign tourists and holiday makers rush to Kashmir

Srinagar, May 21: With the heat wave conditions increasing in India and other parts of world, tourists of different nationalities are thronging to the serene and picturesque Indian Kashmir to escape the scorching heat at their respective places.

srinagar sunIndian Kashmir, which was once known as “Paradise on Earth” has been experiencing pleasant weather now for days. Since the second fortnight of March, the region had been witnessing rainfall. It has witnessed record rainfall this season and has been the perfect refuge place for the Indian and foreigners, who had been feeling heat at their respective places.

According to estimates more than three hundred thousand tourists have visited the Kashmir so far this year. All the hotels in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir and other places of the region are witnessing 90 per cent occupancy.

“The present rush of tourists to Kashmir is satisfactory. Our hotels have registered 90 per cent occupancy, which is a good sign,” said Rauf Ahmad Tramboo, President Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK).

The tourists are enjoying every moment of their stay in the picturesque Kashmir. “The heat at our place was unbearable. We came here to escape from the scorching heat. We have enjoyed a lot in this place, which has not been wrongly named as ‘paradise on earth’. The weather has been very pleasant and it has given us much relief,” said Ami Saraia an Indian tourist, who along with her family is staying here for last five days.

A hotelier in the Boulevard Road on the banks of world famous Dal Lake in Srinagar predicted of good tourist season ahead during the summer months.

British Met Office has already predicted that 2010 is likely to be the world’s warmest year on record . It predicts that the global average temperature next year to be almost 0.6°C warmer than the 1961 to 1990 average, and forecasts an annual average of 14.58°C.
