Four people have been killed and hostages taken during a bank robbery in Israel, according to police. / Breaking News
At least four people – three men and one woman – were killed and several others were injured, including one person in serious condition, during a robbery gone wrong at a Be’er Sheva bank on Monday.
The victims reportedly died during a shootout at a branch of Bank Hapoalim in the southern Israeli city of Be’er Sheva.
A further shot was heard from the bank at around 2.15pm local time, according to local reports.
One of the robbers was thought to have barricaded himself inside the building with a female hostage before shooting himself.
Three men and a woman are reportedly among the dead, with a further three injured, including one seriously.
The suspects were hold up inside the Hapoalim Bank with at least one hostage as police attempted to negotiate with them. An hour into the standoff, one hostage was released. At one point, one of the robbers killed himself. The other robber was taken to hospital.
Large forces were called to the scene as shots were fired. The area has been sealed off and rescue forces declared a mass casualty event.
Daniel, who works at an adjacent building described the scene. “I heard several gunshots, I think three or four. It looks like a robbery. We left the office to see what was going on. There are two people lying on the floor in a pool of blood.”
Idan, the owner of a nearby café said that businesses on the street were all evacuated.
