The attack which took place in the Zhongxin Kindergarten which is located in Taixing City, Jiangsu Province is the second school attack in less then 24 hours and the fourth major incident involving attacks on school children in the country in the past two months.

The man identified as Xu Yu Yuan, who is a 47-year-old jobless resident in the area carried out the attacks with a 20 centimetre kitchen knife and injured 29 students, two teaching staff and a security guard. It has been reported that five of the children have been injured seriously and two are in critical condition.

The attacks came on the same day that it was announced by Chinese authorities that the knife man who killed 8 students at a school in the city of Nanpingon on March 23 was to be executed.

Just yesterday another attacker, 33-year-old teacher on sick leave since 2006, in Guangdong province, South China went on a crazed stabbing spree injuring 15 students and a teacher.

No motive was found for the attacks as yet but it is thought that all the men were mentally ill and in depression.

Authorities have confirmed that most of the victims of today’s attacks were four-years-old and from the same class.

Frantic parents were seen running to the kindergarten’s front gates to see if their child was injured after the news broke out of the attack.

The attacks in recent months have also frightened parents all over the country with chat sites and forums filling up with angered mothers and fathers who are so frightened that some have even stopped sending their children to school.

One parent even wrote “I have left my job to be able to take my son to school and see him into the classroom, I just can’t make him get out of my sight. It is even effecting me and my sons life outside of school, I do not send him outside to play with his friends, I am just too scared”.

The attacks highlight how China’s mentally ill are being treated as complaints have risen in recent months as many people in depression or seriously mentally ill are not receiving the right treatment or any treatment at all.
