A 16-year-old boy was arrested by police Indian administered Kashmir on charges of stone pelting
Srinagar, Nov 27/NationalTurk – Police in Indian administered Kashmir on Monday arrested a minor boy on charges of stone pelting.
A police spokesman said ‘notorious stone pelter’ Danish Farooq Wani of Habba Kadal, Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir was arrested by police.
“The youth is involved in number of stone pelting incidents for which a case FIR no: 26/2012 has been registered against him,” he said.
According to records of the Board of School Education, the date of birth of Danish is 6/6/1996.
The police spokesman said after his arrest, he was presented before the Court of Sub- Registrar, Srinagar. “The Court remanded him to police custody for not being a minor,” he said.
Police have launched a crackdown on youth, who according to it, are involved in stone pelting. The stone pelting incidents take place during pro-freedom demonstrations. During protests against basic amenities of life, the stone pelting incidents take place.
Over 5000 youth were detained in 2010, 2011
According to statistics, more than 5,255 youth were detained by police and paramilitary soldiers in Indian administered Kashmir between January 1, 2010, and February 28, 2011. The government released most of the youth but cases against few hundreds were not withdrawn despite assurances from Chief Minister of the region.
The separatist leadership of the region have been alleging that police has launched crackdown against youth to prevent them from participating in pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations. They have been repeatedly demanding release of all the arrested youth and withdrawal of cases and charges against them.
