Egypt’s judiciary is serious in its fight against unpopular journalists. The Attorney General in Cairo has brought charges against 20 employees of the news channel al-Jazeera. They are accused of membership in a terrorist organization.

Egypt’s prosecutor says journalists enemies of the state and terrorists. The chief prosecutor of the State Security represents 20 employees of the news channel al-Jazeera for alleged terrorist links in court.

The indictment accuses the 16 Egyptian journalists membership in a terrorist organization. The four foreign employees – one Australian, one Dutch and two British – the dissemination of false news and supporting a terrorist group accused. Eight of the defendants are already in custody since December.

The journalists had taken up in a luxury hotel in Cairo quarters after the studio of the radio station had been repeatedly raided by security forces.
