The Witcher 3: Next Gen Edition is scheduled for release later this year

About a month after the renewed postponement, CD Projekt is now announcing that the next-gen upgrade from The Witcher 3 (test) will be released this year.

The developer now plans to release the game in Q4 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.

A seventh birthday present

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt was released exactly seven years ago. For the anniversary, CD Projekt Red is looking forward to Twitter and gives the rough release period of the new edition already promised at the end of 2020.

The announcement follows a recent indefinite postponement. The title was already postponed to the second quarter of 2022 at the end of 2021. In mid-April, CD Projekt then announced that the remaining work on the next-gen edition would be carried out by its own development team. Previously, the Russian location of the Saber Interactive studio was responsible. CD Projekt did not reveal exactly why the step was taken; however, the reason may be obvious. Since the first thing to be evaluated is how much work is left, the developer initially did not name a new release period.

Improved graphics and new content load faster

Role-playing game fans can look forward to enhanced graphics including ray tracing with the next-gen version. The loading times should be shorter, especially on the consoles. In addition, there will be some other small additional content that will be inspired by the Netflix series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel. Presumably these are skins or new armor and weapons. The two addons Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine will also be included.

When announcing the reboot, CD Projekt promised that the next-gen edition would be available for free if players owned the original version of the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC. Apart from that, a completely new game in the Witcher universe is also in the works, as the developer revealed in March 2022. The title is said to be based on the Unreal Engine 5, but it is explicitly not a continuation of the previous trilogy.
