Trump signals breakthrough with Iran: We’re close to agreement on almost everything

US President Donald Trump said direct talks with Iran have made significant progress, noting that both sides are seeking a deal and have reached common ground on key issues.

US President Donald Trump made striking remarks about ongoing contacts with Iran, revealing that direct negotiations have taken place and are advancing faster than expected. Speaking to reporters as he departed from Florida, Trump indicated that Washington and Tehran are nearing a potential agreement, with major convergence on critical issues including nuclear activities and regional stability.

Trump: “Iran wants a deal, and so do we”

Trump emphasized that both sides are willing to reach an agreement, stating: “Iran wants a deal, and so do we.”

He added that talks lasted throughout the day and further discussions, including phone calls and in-person meetings, are expected soon.

Highlighting the progress made, Trump said: “We’re close to agreement on almost everything.”

He noted that negotiations were conducted by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Nuclear and missile issues at the forefront

Trump outlined the key topics discussed during negotiations:

“We don’t want nuclear weapons. We want missile activities to be at a low level. We want peace in the Middle East. We are also addressing enriched uranium, and we’ve agreed in principle on that.”

Warning of continued strikes

Trump also issued a stark warning if talks fail: “If it doesn’t go well, we will continue bombing.”

He said Iran had been given a five-day window to move forward with the agreement.

Hormuz Strait could be jointly controlled

Addressing questions about the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said: “It will be jointly controlled.”

He suggested the waterway could reopen soon, emphasizing its importance for global energy markets.

“No nuclear weapons — they accepted that”

Trump claimed Iran had accepted key conditions: “There will be no nuclear weapons. They accepted that.”

He added that such an agreement could bring long-term stability to the Middle East.

“Oil prices will drop if a deal is reached”

Trump pointed to potential economic impacts, saying: “Oil prices will drop quickly once a deal is reached.”

While expressing optimism, he noted that no outcome is guaranteed.
