President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the Lincoln Bathroom inside the White House has been completely remodeled — replacing its old art deco green tiles with a bold black-and-white marble design accented by gold faucets and hooks. The president shared several photos of the renovation on Truth Social, calling it “highly polished Statuary marble” and joking that it “might be the original marble from Lincoln’s time.”
Trump says it reflects Lincoln’s era
The president, who has long voiced his dissatisfaction with previous White House renovations, told NBC News earlier this year that the bathroom would be restored in a way that “better fits the style of Abraham Lincoln’s period.”
In his latest posts, Trump praised the design as “appropriate for the time of Lincoln,” describing it as one of his favorite projects in the building so far.
Part of broader White House remodeling
The Lincoln Bathroom renovation comes amid a wave of architectural changes under Trump’s administration since his return to office. Just last week, construction crews demolished the East Wing to make space for a new grand ballroom, a project Trump described as “an essential expansion for a new era of the White House.”
The move has drawn sharp criticism from preservation groups and lawmakers, who argue that the demolition erases pieces of national history and lacks proper external oversight. Earlier this week, the administration dismissed the fine arts commission that had been advising on the ballroom’s design.
Public opinion turns negative
A new Washington Post–ABC News–Ipsos poll shows that a majority of Americans oppose Trump’s demolition of the East Wing in favor of the ballroom project. The White House has not yet commented on the controversy surrounding the latest renovation decisions.
