Turkish People Remembers August 17 Earthquake

11 years have passed since the deadly earthquake of August 17, 1999 in Turkey.

Disastrous earthquake killed more than 18,000 and injured over 48,000 people.

Memorial services took place on Tuesday in Kocaeli, Golcuk, Duzce, Sakarya, Yalova and Istanbul at 3.02 a.m., the time when the powerful earthquake hit, to remember those who lost lives in the natural disaster 11 years ago.

The August 17 earthquake was one of the most devastating earthquakes in Turkey’s history.

The earthquake registered 7.4 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was Golcuk.

The earthquake collapsed more than 110,000 buildings.
