Galatasaray are shocked after being eliminated from the UEFA Europa League against Ukrainian side Karpaty Lviv after a disappointing night for Turkish football.

The Turkish giants who were favorites to win the two leg playoffs before the group stages had drawn 2-2 at the Ali Samiyen Stadium in Istanbul against Karpaty Lviv but were still favorites to progress.

However the Ukrainian side was up to the challenge and managed a 1-1 draw in the final moments to secure a 3-3 aggregate and go through to the UEFA Europa League Group Stages through the away goal rule.

Galatasaray who secured a 2-2 draw after falling 2-0 behind in last week’s first leg game in Istanbul had been confident before the game in Ukraine and should have triumphed especially after the 72nd minute when Serhiy Kuznetsov received a red card.

Galatasaray were able to increase their attacking play looking for that all important goal and it came on the 90th minute when Aydın Yılmaz put Galatasaray 1-0 up (3-2 on aggregate).

However just 2 minutes later Karpaty Lviv managed to equalize through Artem Fedetskyı who subsequently received a second yellow and was also given his marching orders.

The Istanbul side could not recover from the goal they conceded and seconds later the game was over and a historic loss for Galatasaray was recorded.
