Lavrov: Ukraine attempted drone attack on Putin’s official residence in Novgorod

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine attempted to target Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official residence in the Novgorod region with drones, warning that Moscow would reassess its negotiating stance.

Sergey Lavrov said Ukraine attempted to carry out a drone attack on the official residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region, describing the incident as an act of “state terrorism.”

According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, Lavrov stated that Ukrainian forces launched 91 unmanned aerial vehicles overnight between December 28 and 29 in an alleged attempt to strike Putin’s official residence. He noted that all drones were intercepted and destroyed, and that the incident resulted in no casualties, injuries or material damage.

Lavrov accused Kyiv of escalating its tactics, saying the Ukrainian leadership had “fully transitioned to a policy of state terrorism.” He added that while Russia would not withdraw from negotiations over Ukraine, its approach to talks would be reconsidered in light of what he described as Ukraine’s actions.

“Russia’s negotiating position will be reviewed, taking into account the Kyiv regime’s definitive shift toward state terrorism,” Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister also signaled a response, stating that following the alleged attack attempt on Putin’s residence, Russia had already determined its retaliation targets and timing.
