William and Kate post video of dive

Prince William and Duchess Kate tour former British colonies. They are not welcomed with open arms everywhere, there are protests in Jamaica and Belize.

Nothing of this can be seen on the royal couple’s Instagram account, but the two share impressive underwater shots.

On their Caribbean trip, British Prince William and his wife Duchess Kate went diving on a coral reef in Belize – and also encountered sharks. The protection of marine life in the Central American country is among the best in the world, William said in a video posted to the couple’s social media accounts on Tuesday.

It shows the two diving side by side on Sunday at the Belize Barrier Reef in the Caribbean Sea – the second largest reef system in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Fish swam around them, including at least one shark. William and Kate are traveling on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrates her 70th anniversary this year.

On Tuesday they landed in Jamaica, the second stop on their eight-day tour of three former colonies, which ends next Saturday in the Bahamas. A demonstration took place in front of the British embassy in the Jamaican capital Kingston on Tuesday, during which 350 people, according to the organizers, demanded an apology and reparations from the royal family for slavery and other acts during the colonial era.

Protests had already overshadowed the royal trip at the first stop in Belize. Because of “sensitive community issues in Indian Creek,” the couple toured a chocolate factory rather than a cocoa plantation as intended. According to media reports, residents of the originally selected village of Indian Creek had demonstrated against the visit because of a land dispute between them and the conservation organization involved in the farm, which William has sponsored.
