Prison officer 2 kids mum Sam Bailey a forgotten talent, X Factor UK discover it was a fabulous voice and shone like a star final night.

Prison officer Sam Bailey has been crowned the winner of the X Factor 2013.

Singing her winner’s song, Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, in a floor length black sequin dress, she reduced Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne to tears with her emotional performance and attracting over 1 million votes.

After months of hard work, Sam has earned her one million pound recording deal and a place on Beyonce’s Mrs Carter tour next year.

Gary Barlow , who looked like he had shed a tiny tear said: ‘You’ve stolen the hearts of the nation.

‘You’ve done this on behalf of people whose dreams have stayed dreams.’

A extremely teary Nicole added: ‘You got me looking like a hot mess, the first time I saw you you brought tears to my eyes, and you’ve done it again with your last performance.

‘That voice is a gift from God and you are the voice.

‘Timing is everything and this is your time right now.’

Louis Walsh said: ‘You deserve to be on that stage, that’s going to be number one record – stop crying.’

Lost for words, a blubbering Mrs O, could not even muster up a few words, which led presenter Dermot O’Leary to say: ‘That says it all.’

An equally emotional Sam told Dermot: ‘In the time that I’ve bee in this competition I’ve grown not only as a person but in my music.

‘There’s one person that’s been so inspirational and that’s Sharon Osbourne and I love her to pieces.’

Co-presenter Caroline Flack, who was in the audience with Sam’s family, asked Sam’s son, Tommy, 4,  what he thought, to which he said: ‘Mummy’s going to win.’

Nicholas put up a good fight, with his winner’s song, Superman by Five For Fighting, but unfortunately it was not enough to earn him the crown.

Mentor Louis said: ‘Nicolas McDonald you came into this a boy and you’ve grown into a man.

‘It’s been my honour to sit here and watch you grow – congratulations to everything you’ve achieved that song was amazing.’

Gary added: ‘What a transformation from the first time we saw you.

‘You’ve had tons of experience in this competition – take it and move forward.’

Nicole said: ‘My Nicky Blue Eyes – that song was perfect for you.

‘Everything is right there inside of you.

‘That is the album you will be making and I can’t wait to buy it.’

Nicholas added: ‘I just to thank my mum and dad for believing in me.’

Reflecting on the series this year, Louis said: ‘We had tears, we had laughter we had madness but I wouldn’t change a single moment.’
A sad, Gary, who will not be returning next year as he concentrates on making music with Take That said: ‘I’ll be watching at home from next year, feeling a little left out if I’m honest.

‘But it’s going to be a memorable night tonight – I’m going to sing with my lifelong hero Elton John.

‘I love the show and I love being on this panel.’

All the X Factor 2013 contestants returned to the stage to kick off the show by performing Roar by Katy Perry.

One Direction kicked off the celebrity performances of the evening, sporting a new rock, grunge look.

Harry told the screaming audience: ‘Yeah we got Christmas off.

The boys go back on tour in April, starting with South America and then back to Wembley Stadium in May.

There was even a bit of drama on the night when longest-serving judge, Louis Walsh was not going to let the show pass by without a dig at Nicole Scherzinger, who completely stole the limelight from duet partner Sam Bailey on the show.

When asked by Dermot about what he thought of the duets, Louis said: ‘The highlight was Nicholas and Shane because he let him sing, unlike some people – Nicole!’

Sharon added that her highlight of the evening was also Sam’s duet with Nicole.

Gary Barlow agreed and added: ‘Absoltuely I thought it was mesmerising.’

Nicole was not phased by the comment from Louis, and took it all in her stride simple adding: ‘I love my x factor family’.

‘Oh my gosh, sharing the stage with Sam and being up here with my X Factor family. I am going to miss you guys.’

Both Gary and Nicole, who don’t have a finalist in the last show, both picked Sam Bailey as their winner, with Nicole adding:  ‘I love both of them but as Sam said last night, she’s been waiting for this for 20 years.

Nicholas kicked off the night’s performances with In The Arms Of An Angel by Sarah McLachlan.

Violinists and contemporary dancers performed beside the singer, who looked smart in a tailored black suit.

Sharon said: ’17-year-old I love you.

Gary Barlow also got to sing with his hero, Elton John on the evening, and both sat at pianos whilst they played away together.

Appearing on stage with his ‘lifelong hero’ Elton John, Mr Barlow waved goodbye to ITV show after three years of being head judge.

The pair  performed Face to Face and accompanied by an army of marching band dancers in matching white uniforms.

Meanwhile, the ratings for Saturday night’s X Factor were the worst since the show’s launch in 2004.

The average audience was just 8.5million, including viewers on the catch-up +1 channel, a million lower than last year.

The only time the ratings were worse was when 8.1million saw Steve Brookstein win the show nine years ago.

The show was beaten by Strictly Come Dancing, which pulled an average of 9.9million viewers.
