President Abraham Lincoln gets classic Steven Spielberg treatment.

After leaked on-set pictures of Daniel Day-Lewis emerged of him having his lunch sporting his bristling Abe Lincoln beard, the web has been alight with talk of potential Oscars before a single millimetre of film has been seen.

Now we finally have the trailer for Steven Spielberg’s epic telling of the story of the 16th president of the United States, imaginatively titled

It looks to have all the hallmarks of an Oscar-trawler, with a swelling score, and what looks like a virtuoso performance from Day-Lewis.

The all-star cast also includes Sally Field as first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as their son Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as congressional leader Thaddeus Stevens and David Strathairn as secretary of state William Seward.

There are also roles for ‘Mad Men’s Jared Harris, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson and Jackie Earle Haley.

As Abe says… “Shall we stop this bleeding?”
