Kim Jong-il funeral : North Korea cries a river

North Korea held the first day of funeral ceremonies for its late leader Kim Jong-il, who passed away on December 17, leaving uncertainty over the future of the ‘most’ communist state of the world.North Korea News

Seul / NationalTurk – A grieving crowd of tearful North Koreans gathered outside the Kumsusan Memorial Palace in central capital Pyongyang, where “the Dear Leader’s” body has been lying in an open glass coffin.

Kim Jong-il is believed to have died from a heart attack, however, North Korean officials claim that Kim Jong-il died of “fatigue and over-work” while on a train.

The news of his demise was announced only after a two-day delay sending shock waves and sparking mass hysteria across the North Korean nation.

Kim Jong-il funeral : North Korea cries a river

The leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea since 1994, he succeeded his father Kim Il-sung and maintained the policy of keeping his country closed to the world and isolated from the rest of the world.

Local North Korean TV and radio announcers covering the funeral event could not contain their emotions, their voices trembling as they spoke.

“Even the land, rivers, trees seem to shiver mourning at the sounds of bitter weeping of military and the people,” official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a statement.

North Koreans : Facade or Genuine

Earlier on Wednesday, KCNA reported that many residents of Pyongyang, who had come to say goodbye to “Dear Leader” Kim Jong-il, are so shocked by his death, they do not want to believe it. The citizens cried: “Dear General, do not leave us!” and begged “Please come back to us!” reported the agency.

The world’s opinion on North Koreans is rather sceptical. As there are some who find the grief and pain of North Koreans over the death of their leader totally genuine, most of the world think it is exaggareted and out of fear of the dictatorship regime. This video should explain everything.

Kim Jong-il funeral reunited South and North Korea briefly

Meanwhile the death and funeral of Kim Jong-il have reunited North and South Korea for a limited period of time, as a group of South Koreans has been allowed to visit the North to pay tribute to Kim Jong-il. Among them was the widow of the former president Kim Dae-jung, who helped ease tensions between the nations, and Hyundai Group Chairperson Hyun Jeong-eun, whose late husband had ties to the North.

Kim Jong-un : A new North Korean dictator in the making

The group met with Kim Jong-il’s successor, his youngest son, Kim Jong-un. His accession to power extends the Kim family rule over the most isolated communist state of the globe into the third generation. North Korean State media have already dubbed him as a “great successor” and an “outstanding leader.”

The official Korean Central News Agency indicated that Kim Jong-un will continue his father’s “military-first” policy.

“As dear comrade Kim Jong Un, who is a sagacious leader of our party, state and military, is at the forefront of our revolutionary cause, the history of our father and general’s glorious military-first revolution will continue,” it said.

However it remains unclear where the young ruler will take the impoverished North Korea.
