Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay declared that the Turkish jet was downed after it was hit by a missile launched by Syria. The declaration came after 3 months as the jet was downed on June 22.
Ankara / NationalTurk – Turkey’s deputy prime minister Beşir Atalay stated the cause had not yet been confirmed by Turkish Air Force units, but the object that most probably brought down the Turkish fighter jet was a Russian-made missile launched by Syrian air defense system.
The Russian -made missiles, of which Syria is a known owner, are heat-sensitive and require no radar system to locate air units.

Confirmation will only come after further investigation by Turkish Air Force units, Atalay added.
There has been much speculation in Turkey surrounding the downing of the Turkish jet since it was struck on June 22. Turkey has long said the plane was on recon mission and struck by Syria in international waters, while Syria has claimed that it was hit with anti-aircraft fire close to the Arab republic’s coast over Mediterranean.
