The Prime Ministers main point of subject was the September 12, 2010 constitutional referendum (which was miraculously set to the date of the military group 30 years previous) and opposition Party’s who were against it.

Erdoğan, who spoke to the AKP MP’s during the group meeting was seen crying when speaking of a letter that a revolutionist sent to his family before he was killed.

The vote for the constitutional reform will take place on September 12, 2010 and is aimed at changing certain key areas of the Turkish constitution such as the Supreme Board of Prosecutors and Judges.

Opposition parties have already condemned the Prime Ministers speech saying that the tears were only to get more support for the referendum on September 12.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli who is fiercely against the referendum, has started his Party’s “NO” campaign.

Bahçeli who heads Turkey’s nationalist Party is against the referendum saying that the referendum is more beneficial and meets the demands of “foreign elements” rather than meeting the nation’s demands.

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) who are also against the referendum, are also expected to start a No campaign.

The Turkish media have also been swift on picking up on the Prime Ministers tearful speech with headings such as “New tactics by Prime Minister Erdğan”, “As the referendum nears Erdoğan gets emotional”, “Erdoğan remembers Kurds before the referendum”.
