Four persons were killed and dozens others injured in a powerful blast in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi on Friday a day after Pakistan army jets bombed militant positions in Khyber tribal agency.

Islamabad, April 25/Nationalturk – In what could signal end of talks between Pakistan government and dreaded militant groups Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Pakistan army jets yesterday bombed militant positions in restive Khyber tribal agency.

Pakistan army jets conducted airstrikes in Bara tehsil and Jamrud in restive Khyber Agency, where militants are said to have safe havens.

Pakistan newspaper, Express Tribune, quoted a security official as saying that 10 militant hideouts were destroyed in the bombing.

He said about 35 militants were killed and over dozen in the airstrikes.

The official said after the airstrikes, security forces cordoned off different areas in Bara to arrest militants, who tried to flee the region after the bombing. “During the search operation, 15 suspects were arrested from Mirikhel and Sultankhel areas of Bara”.

The aerial bombings took place after killing of over 20 people in terrorist attack in vegetable market in capital Islamabad early this month. The aerial strikes also come at a time when TTP, which has been holding talks with Pakistan government, refused to extend its over month long ceasefire, which expired on 10th of this month.

TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid while condemning the aerial bombing said it would derail talks. “If government is empowered and serious in negotiations we will continue them,” he was quoted as saying by media.
