4 soldiers and a policeman killed in Indian Kashmir

Srinagar, July 5: Four Indian army men and a policeman were killed in separate incidents in Indian Kashmir on Monday.

A police officer said an Indian army vehicle rolled into a deep gorge in Nowgam sector near Line of Control (defacto border between India and Pakistan in Indian Kashmir) in North Kashmir on Monday morning.

He said four army men were killed on the spot and 11 others including three officers injured. “The injured men and officers have been evacuated to army hospital, where doctors are attending on them. The condition of three of the injured is stated to be critical,” he said.

He said the soldiers belonged to engineering regiment and were on a routine survey in the area when their vehicle met with a mishap.

“Police is ascertaining cause of the mishap,” he said.

The official further said that a policeman was found unconscious inside his room in police barrack in District Police Lines, Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him death.

Identifying the deceased cop as Nazir Ahmad (No 2019/S), the official said investigations have been launched to ascertain the exact reason of his death.
