Police and demonstrators clashed in Almelo

Almelo issues emergency order for center after clashes with demonstrators

A group of protesters clashed with police officers in the center of Almelo this afternoon.

This happened after a protest at the town hall. The mayor has issued an emergency order for the center of the immediate vicinity, which means that you cannot be there without a valid reason.
There is a video on Twitter of activists harassing agents in the center of the city.

The group was allowed to demonstrate until noon at City Hall, where an inverted flag was painted on the wall. The municipality already determined last week that the inverted flag with the slogan in front of the town hall must go because it is not a work of art, but a political statement. Virus Truth leader Willem Engel had also come to Almelo.

The protesters do not agree with the municipality’s intention to remove the painting. Just after twelve o’clock the tractors drove away from the town hall, some of the people stayed behind.

Mayor Arjen Gerritsen van Almelo announced yesterday that the action was allowed to continue under certain conditions. For example, a maximum of two tractors and five hundred demonstrators were allowed to be present, and the action had to end by twelve o’clock this afternoon.
