U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited tensions with Denmark and Greenland after sharing an image on Truth Social that signals his renewed insistence that Greenland should become American territory. The visual shows Trump planting a U.S. flag near a sign reading “Greenland, U.S. Territory, Founded 2026,” suggesting that Greenland would become part of the United States in 2026 — and that he would be the one to deliver it.
“National security” argument and the “Golden Dome” reference
The post came after Trump reiterated that the United States needs Greenland for “national security” purposes, adding that it is “vital” for the construction of the “Golden Dome.” As the dispute continues to simmer, Trump’s latest message has once again pushed the issue to the center of political debate.

Vance and Rubio appear in the image
The image also features U.S. Vice President James David Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio standing alongside Trump. All three are portrayed with determined expressions, reinforcing the message of resolve behind the post.
Trump lashes out at the UK over Diego Garcia
In a separate statement, Trump harshly criticized the United Kingdom, accusing it of planning to hand Diego Garcia — home to a strategically important U.S. military base — to Mauritius. Trump described the move as a sign of weakness, claimed China and Russia would notice it, and called it “a great stupidity.” He also framed the episode as another reason for what he described as a long list of “national security” arguments for taking control of Greenland, urging Denmark and European allies to “do the right thing.”
