Macron: No Hezbollah attacks, no Israeli ground war

French President Emmanuel Macron urged Hezbollah to halt its attacks on Israel and called on Israel to avoid launching a ground operation in Lebanon, warning that the country must not be dragged into a wider war.

French President Emmanuel Macron called for immediate restraint amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, stressing that Lebanon must not be pushed into another war. Macron urged Hezbollah to stop firing at Israel and called on Israel to avoid any ground operation on Lebanese territory.

“Lebanon must not be dragged into war”

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Macron said everything must be done to prevent Lebanon from sliding back into conflict.

He emphasized that diplomatic efforts are underway to ease tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Talks with Trump and Netanyahu

Macron said he had previously discussed the situation with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He also revealed that he held talks with senior Lebanese officials to work on a plan aimed at ending military operations between Hezbollah and Israel along the Lebanese border.

“Hezbollah must immediately stop firing at Israel. Israel must avoid any ground intervention or large-scale operation on Lebanese territory,” Macron said.

French support for the Lebanese army

Macron added that Lebanese authorities had pledged to take control of positions currently held by Hezbollah and assume full responsibility for the country’s security.

He said France would continue to support the Lebanese Armed Forces by strengthening cooperation and providing armored personnel carriers as well as operational and logistical assistance.

Warning to Iran

Macron also warned Iran not to drag Lebanon into a conflict that does not belong to the Lebanese people.

At the same time, he urged Israel to avoid steps that could further escalate tensions in the region.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon

The Israeli military said on March 2 that sirens were activated in northern Israel after rockets were detected coming from Lebanon.

Israel later launched extensive air strikes across Lebanon, including attacks targeting the capital Beirut. The Israeli military also announced plans to expand its ground operations in the country.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Israeli air strikes carried out since March 2 have killed 102 people and injured 638 others.
