Trump Announces Strait of Hormuz Blockade

U.S. President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to all vessels except those linked to Iran. Ships traveling to or from Iranian ports or carrying Iranian goods will be subject to the blockade.

The United States has outlined the scope of its new restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said the blockade would apply only to vessels involved in trade with Iran.

Iran-linked shipments to be targeted

Trump stated that ships entering or leaving Iranian ports, as well as vessels carrying goods connected to Iran, would not be allowed to pass through the strait.

He said maritime traffic belonging to other countries would continue without restrictions, describing the decision as part of Washington’s pressure campaign against Tehran.

Investment deals to replace 20 percent tariff

Trump also announced a new economic arrangement following talks with several Middle Eastern countries. He said a planned 20 percent U.S. tariff would be replaced by trade and investment agreements with Gulf states.

According to the U.S. president, the agreements would involve large-scale investments that could produce significant benefits for both sides.

Trump repeats nuclear warning

Trump claimed that the United States had emerged as the winning side and accused the Iranian government of killing thousands of people, including 52,000 protesters.

He also reiterated that Washington would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
