Why is Macron wearing sunglasses?
French President Emmanuel Macron’s use of sunglasses indoors during the NATO Summit in Ankara drew attention and sparked debate on social media.

Emmanuel Macron’s sunglasses became one of the most talked-about details of the NATO Summit in Ankara. The French President was seen wearing them not only outdoors but also indoors and during evening events.
He is reportedly wearing them because of an eye condition
Macron is said to be using the sunglasses due to discomfort in his eye. The French President had previously worn similar glasses at the World Economic Forum in Davos, during his meeting in France with Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida, and during his visit to Damascus.
Seen wearing them in Ankara too
Macron, who has been holding talks in Ankara for two days, also wore sunglasses during his NATO Summit meetings. He was also seen wearing them while jogging in Seğmenler Park in the morning.
“Eye of the tiger” remark
In January, Macron was seen with a visibly red eye during a military event in southern France. At the time, he said the issue was “completely harmless” and jokingly described his eye as “l’oeil du tigre,” meaning “the eye of the tiger.”
French media had reported that the condition could be a subconjunctival hemorrhage, which occurs when a small blood vessel bursts in the protective tissue of the eye.
