After continued incursions by Chinese army along Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India, Indian army will deploy additional 50,000 troops along the China border.

New Delhi, July 18/Nationalturk – After continued incursions by Chinese army along Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India, Indian government has given a go-ahead to army to deploy additional 50,000 troops along the China border.

“Indian government has given a go ahead to army for creation of a mountain strike corps at cost of around Rs 65,000 crore. The corps would be deployed along the China border.  The Army will deploy 50,000 more soldiers along the China border to prevent Chinese soldiers from intruding into Indian territory,” army sources said.

New Corps will focus on mountain warfare

They said the new corps will focus on mountain warfare. “The deployment of additional soldiers on China border and creation of mountain strike corps will boost Indians Army’s war fighting capabilities along the Line of Actual Control and help it counter threats from Chinese troops.”

Sources said Indian Army is expected to raise the new Corps’ headquarters at Panagarh in Indian state of West Bengal along with two divisions in Bihar and Assam and other units from Ladakh in Indian administered Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh.

They said India Army has been taking a number of steps to strengthen its defences along the China border and already raised two divisions there in recent past.

‘Indian army can launch offensive in Tibet in case of Chinese attack’

Sources said new mountain corps will give Indian army capability to mount offensive action into the Tibet in case of any misadventure by Chinese forces. “Indian forces are also weighing up a proposal to patrol deeper into the disputed territory with China, beyond the limits observed before the three-week border standoff between two countries in April this year”.

They said army is also planning to procure ultra-light howitzers, light tanks and helicopters for their deployment along the LAC to strengthen Indian positions.

“Indian Air Force (IAF) will also deploy its force multiplier assets such as six each mid-air refuelling tankers and C-130J Super Hercules special operations aircraft at Panagarh,” they said.

Sources said Army and IAF have also plans of deploying ballistic and cruise missile units in the northeastern region, which is close to China border. “Army and Air force have also activated some helipads and air fields for its aircraft and choppers to operate in the north eastern sector”.

It remains to be seen how Chinese government and Chinese army will react to Indian government’s latest move.

China claims about 90,000 sq km (35,100 sq miles) of what India says is her territory, mostly in the eastern part of their shared border.
