Another record for China’s new infections

For the second day in a row, the number of new corona infections in China has reached a new record.

A lockdown has been ordered for a further six million people, which applies from today.

In China, the number of new corona infections has continued to rise. The authorities registered another 32,695 confirmed cases within a day. This is the highest level in the country since the pandemic began and the second record high in a row. Only yesterday, with 31,444 new infections, the previous daily high from April was exceeded.

Larger outbreaks are currently being reported from Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang and Chongqing. But hundreds of new cases are also being registered every day in a number of other cities.

Lockdown in Zhengzhou

As part of its zero-Covid strategy, the country’s leadership continues to implement restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Around the country’s largest iPhone factory in the city of Zhengzhou, where violent protests had recently taken place, a lockdown was imposed on more than six million people yesterday. It is valid from today for an initial period of five days. More than half of the city’s residents have been affected by the lockdown. For the time being, residents of the city center are only allowed to leave the area with a negative corona test and official permission. You are also advised to only leave the house in urgent cases.

In eight districts, residents must also be tested for the corona virus every day for five days. The area of the huge iPhone factory, in which the strictest corona rules have been in force for weeks, is excluded from the new lockdown for the time being. Workers at the factory took to the streets on Wednesday to protest the harsh restrictions and poor pay.
