The excitement, the crowd and the risks which lay in the bull ring hits record viewers each year, though the sport has lost popularity in some countries in recent years.
However, nothing could have prepared the matador, spectators or anyone for what happened in Madrid on Friday when a Spanish matador, Julio Aparicio, was gored from under his chin.
As can be seen on the video footage, the bullfighter lost his balance while the bull was coming towards him and dropped to his knee which is when the half-ton bull struck.
The scene was horrible as you can see from the video on top, but please be advised that if you’re fainthearted, DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO, it is very graphic.
The thousands of crowd looked on in horror as the matador was tossed by his chin like he was a doll. He was lifted back on his feet by his aids with blood pouring from his mouth and under his chin and remarkably he was not unconscious and managed to rush out of the ring.
The 41-year-old bullfighter is currently in intensive care with doctors saying they expect a full recovery after no arteries or major veins were damaged.
The bullfighter’s surgeon, Dr. Maximo Garcia Padros operated on Aparicio for six hours to reconstruct his throat, jaw, tongue, and roof of his mouth.
Padros said on Sunday “The horn entered the base of the jaw, just above the vocal cords,”
“It is an injury which seemed worse at first sight but luckily no major damage were done to the important areas. We have made reconstructions to Aparicio’s palate and jaw.”
According to reports the 41-year-old matador is currently communicating with writing on a piece of paper for things which he wants and to answer questions.
The Aparicio’s father, Julio Aparicio Martínez, who was a former bullfighter himself has told local news agencies that his son was in better condition but he has still not visited him.
Martínez said “I only know what I’m told, which is the he is in better condition, but I do not go to see him, I find myself unable to see my son in that condition.”
Doctors say they expect a full recovery and that there are no life threatening injuries. It has not been said if the bullfighter will ever return back to the arena.
The bull which injured Aparicio, was later killed by another matador.

Bull fighters are cowards and this one got what hes deserves. He should be put down and the bull spared, after all the bull won.

Wow people, really? This is what is wrong with the world today. We care more about animals than we do about human life. The matador’s job was to kill the bull, and that is what he was trying to do. You all rant on about how he deserved it, and how sorry you are for the bull, but in reality it is just an animal. Human life is much more important.
It’s not about animals being more important then people. It’s about the suffering those bulls go through before they are killed. knifes about 4 5 inches long are stabbed in the back of the bull to anger it. It is then shown a red sheet to get it more angry. The bull is then played with like it’s nothing like it’s a piece of crap, and then after 10 20 30 minutes maybe more of suffering, it is stabbed in the heart. I don’t see how animals are more important then people if people can oversee another life form not person another life form being tortured in such a way and then say oooh animals are more important then people. after seeing the footage of bullfights all I can say is god damn yes the bull is more important.

Its time for this barbaric sport to come to an end. We would not stand for any other animal being tormented in this manner. We rally for the seals but we tolerate bullfighting. Which is more cruel to the animal?

Animal rights nazis (read people haters) aside, I do feel sympathy for the bulls, as they go through this ordeal, but just so you know, these animals are typically treated VERY well up to the time of the bullfight. This is an example of the risks involved in any activity. If he is to continue bullfighting, Sr Aparicio may want to take some ballet lessons.
The bull had to be killed. He learned a trick that would help him win future fights. The matador must not have been as skilled as he should be.
It’s really quite simple, Don’t like it don’t watch it or support it.
The matador takes his chances and was injured, the bull with a bit of BBQ sauce should be quite tasty.
Glad this happened to the matador, its only unfortunate he wasnt killed! Bull fighting is disgusting! How could anyone torture an animal for pleasure!? its sick! I hope it is banned one day!
